Have you ever been in China in the heat of summer?
It is insanely hot. And humid. Like, I walk outside and my shirt begins sticking to me in a matter of seconds. The kinda humid that makes you want to stay in the shopping mall just to avoid the icky sticky humid air that awaits outside. The kinda hot that leaves you constantly searching for the next cool, refreshing drink you can find to indulge in.
Like watermelon juice.
Mmm-mmm watermelon juice! Chilled fresh watermelon juice. This stuff tasted like the nectar of the gods. I would get excited from the moment I put my damp palms around the cool cup, wet with condensation. I always finished it too quickly, but luckily it was fairly inexpensive there. In the states, I see the same small-sized cups of the stuff going for $4! Seriously? I could buy a whole, big watermelon for $4 and make eight cups of it!
So I did.
Nothin’ like a cold glass of watermelon juice for a hot summer day!
Nothin’ like an EASY PEASY RECIPE that tastes like the fourth of July in your mouth! You won’t be pinning this onto Pinterest for the recipe, but simply to remind yourself that you wanted to make this at some point! (Oh yes, you do.)
Nothin’ like a sweet, refreshing treat that also happens to be sugar-free! I’m not really the person to talk to if you’re looking to go healthy or sugar-free, but this one happens to make the cut for both of those, so huzzah for feeding yourself and your children less-bad stuff.
Nothin’ like buying a $4 watermelon and extracting eight glasses of watermelon juice from it, which would cost about $30 to buy at a drink shop. Saving money… it makes any good thing even better!
When it comes to choosing a watermelon, everybody’s got their own tricks. I am a watermelon knocker, and I listen for which one has the lowest pitch. Some people also say to pick the heaviest one. Others look for a big fat flat yellow spot. For me, knocking on ten watermelons is a quick, easy way to go.
If your watermelon isn’t that sweet, you can add a touch of honey to taste. You will be glad you made it– it’s very easy, and so refreshing! Enjoy!

Super refreshing drink, indeed. Love the diagram 🙂 That’s exactly how I felt when I drank your watermelon juice.
Hehe nice!! 🙂
The June-July 2014 AARP magazine has this to say about “drinking watermelon” — “A tall glass of watermelon juice can relieve muscle soreness because of the melon’s high levels of an amino acid called L-citrulline.”
Good to know!
