My baby girl just turned one! I still can’t believe the first year has passed! I was inspired to make the outfit above when I saw this cute outfit on Etsy. For the party, I didn’t have a clear theme, but just picked out things I liked as I perused Pinterest, including elements from a “One… in a Flash!” theme. This included a photo station with Polaroids:
Party hats and a Fujifilm Instax Camera
I made the party hats and bunting using this gorgeous stack of paper.
Photos from the day. Total throwback to the 80’s, and lots of fun!
We also included a time capsule, because the days are long, but the years fly by in a flash!
It’s true, Year One happened faster than I can believe! We had a great time celebrating with family and friends this weekend. Although I generally wanted to keep the party low-key, one thing I was extra excited about was serving up a lot of desserts!
Chocolate and Earl Grey Panna Cotta with Toffee Sprinkles.
Delish. Will share the recipe soon here!
Best Ever Lemon Bars
Pleasantly tart this time, thanks to some fresh lemons from my neighbors!
Chocolate Cupcakes with Salted Caramel Frosting (and Salted Caramel Drizzle)
High in sugar, butter, and salt. Don’t know if it gets any unhealthier for you than this…
Chocolate-Dipped Shortbread Hearts
Madeleines. A lovely buttery french cakey cookie. One of my childhood favorites.
I broke the rule of don’t try new recipes for company and tried two completely new recipes for the cupcakes and snickerdoodles. I put a lot more time into the cupcakes, which I thought turned out well, but the snickerdoodles were decidedly more popular. One friend even messaged me the night after and said, “D said your snickerdoodles were incredible, very light and fluffy… kept asking if I tried them.” Woohoo!
I initially thought the snickerdoodle recipe was a little strange– it called for a little bit of almost everything in my baking pantry, including baking soda, baking powder, cornstarch, cream of tartar, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice– but I guess that’s part of the magic. I felt like a scientist, sprinkling all these powders into the mixture. The cookies actually came out a lot fluffier/poofier/cakier than I expected, but I served them anyway and nobody seemed to mind. If you’re looking for a spicy, pumpkiny recipe to try, here’s another one to add to your pumpkin board on Pinterest ;).
…And since I knew there was no way we were going to finish all these treats, I set up take out boxes with customized birthday stickers for people to load up with treats and bring home as favors.
All in all, we had a great time hanging out with friends and family. I’m throwing all the recipes into the time capsule in case my someday-teenage daughter wants to recreate some of the goodies we enjoyed, in 2031. I know that those 17 years will fly by in a flash!
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh myyyyy goooooddddnnnnnnnnnnesssssssssss so darn CUTE. I’m melting from all the sweetness. It’s a little funny… I was thinking that there were SO many sweets displayed… and then your take home box idea at the end is so perfect. I am going to have to keep that one in mind, that’s awesome!
Happy (late) birthday to your little one and happy Thanksgiving!
Thanks, Dakota! Yeah it was an excuse for me to bake up some of my favorite goodies and try some new recipes :]]. Happy Thanksgiving!!
